How to Search Arlington County Inmate Records
The Arlington County Sheriff's Office runs an online inmate query for people in custody. It is free and open to the public. You can search by name, subject number, or booking number, and you can narrow results with a booking date range. The search returns a photo, name, and subject number, then links to the full profile.
One sample search page showed 329 people in custody at the time it was crawled, listed 100 per page. The roster reflects current custody only. It does not keep a history once someone leaves.
- Open the Arlington County Sheriff's inmate query.
- Search by name, subject number, or booking number.
- Add a booking date range to narrow a common name.
- Open the profile to read charges, bond, and the court date.
- If no result appears, the person may have been released or moved.
The query reflects individuals currently in custody under Virginia Public Records Law. An arrest does not mean a conviction, and the data should not be used for legal action.
Arlington County Inmate Search Fields

What an Arlington County Inmate Profile Shows
Each inmate profile opens to a detail page. It pulls together the booking, the bond, and the charges in one view. A sample profile showed the fields below, with a booking photo timestamped to the booking date.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name and Subject Number | The inmate's identity in the jail system |
| Booking Photo | A mugshot with the date and time it was taken |
| Booking Number | A jail identifier, for example 2025-00000239 |
| Booking Date | The date and time of booking |
| Total Bond Amount | The full bond, with a bond-type table |
| Charges | Charge description, offense date, and docket number |
| Court Date and Court | Next hearing date and which court, such as the Circuit Court |

Some details are not public. The sample profile did not show date of birth, race, height, weight, housing pod, or a release date.
The Arlington County Detention Facility
All county inmates are held at the Arlington County Detention Facility at 1435 North Courthouse Road, next to the courthouse. It is a high-rise, direct-supervision jail. The Sheriff calls it the first urban high-rise jail run under direct supervision in Virginia, and a model that officials from around the world have come to study. The facility is accredited by the American Correctional Association and follows PREA standards.
The Corrections Division is the Sheriff's largest unit, supervised by Major Sean Elston. It runs the daily operation, basic needs, and programs. The Corrections Division page covers the inmate search, programs, and visitation in one place.
It is the official starting point for inmate records and custody questions.

Booking, Bond, and Court Dates
Booking starts the jail record. After an arrest, a person is brought to the detention facility, processed, photographed, and entered into the jail system. They are then brought before a magistrate or judge for bond and arraignment under Virginia procedure. The inmate profile reflects each of those steps.
Bond can be cash, a surety, or release on personal recognizance with conditions. The court date on the profile is the next scheduled hearing. To track the case itself, use the Arlington County court records systems, since the jail profile only mirrors the basics.
Note: the booking photo and charge list reflect the time of booking, so check the court record for the current case status.
Why Released Inmates Disappear from Search
The biggest source of confusion is a missing result. The roster shows current custody only. When a person posts bond, finishes a sentence, or is transferred, the system removes them from the public list right away.
A blank result does not explain why. The person could be released, moved to state custody, or held elsewhere. To confirm a release, the Arlington County released inmates page walks through the jail, VINELink, and state and federal locators.
Visiting an Arlington County Inmate
Visits must be set up by the inmate and scheduled by housing. Adult visitors need valid, unexpired photo ID, and visitors under 18 must come with an adult. No more than three people may visit one inmate at a time, and only people on the inmate's list are allowed. The schedule below comes from the facility's visitor rules.
| Visit Type | Schedule | Length / Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| On-site personal | Saturdays and Sundays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. | Up to two one-hour visits per month |
| Video visit | 9-11 a.m., 12-4 p.m., 5-6 p.m., 7:30-9:30 p.m. | 20 minutes, two per week |
| Professional / legal | Monday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 7:30-8:30 p.m. | As scheduled |
A person released from the facility within the past 30 days cannot visit. Phones, purses, and other personal items go in public lockers that cost 25 to 75 cents.
Inmate Mail and Money
Personal mail does not go to the jail directly. Except for books and money orders, it goes to a digital mail center to be scanned, then shown on inmate tablets or kiosks. Use this address format.
- Incarcerated Name and ID number
- Arlington, VA C/O Securus DMC
- P.O. Box 21406
- Tampa, FL 33622
Items that cannot be scanned are returned, including paper over 8.5 by 11 inches and any non-paper items. No hardcover books and no packages are allowed. Physical mail is destroyed 60 days after it is uploaded. Money deposited goes into the inmate's commissary account, which also funds the phone system, so families do not need two separate deposits.
Inmate Phone and Video Visits
Inmate phone calls run through Securus at 1-800-844-6591. Remote video visits use the Securus video app. Video visits are currently free, even though the system may ask for a credit card. The Sheriff says any future change to that cost will be announced at least 30 days ahead.
Video visits are monitored and last 20 minutes, with two per week. The visit week starts on Sunday. Visitors must register and be approved before a video session.
Medical and Behavioral Health Services
In November 2025, the Sheriff's Office took over medical care at the jail, moving from a private contractor to a county-run model. Dr. Richard Malish leads it as Chief Medical Director, a newly created post. The change added medical leadership and county nurse and administrative staff. The office plans to seek national correctional health accreditation.
The county's Jail Mental Health Team keeps partnering with the Sheriff on behavioral health. Programs like the Community Readiness Unit and Medication Assisted Treatment support people in custody, with the goal of cutting repeat bookings.
The 2024 annual report shows how active those programs are. The Addictions, Corrections, and Treatment program graduated 16 people that year. Medication Assisted Treatment expanded with the addition of Sublocade. The office also piloted biometric monitoring devices that it credits with 11 life-saving interventions for medically vulnerable people in custody. Pretrial supervision posted an 87 percent success rate.
State and Federal Inmate Search Alternatives
The county roster only covers local custody. For people held by the state or the federal system, use a different locator. The Virginia Department of Corrections runs a state inmate locator. The Bureau of Prisons runs a federal one. VINELink offers custody-status notifications across many jurisdictions.
The released inmates page lays out each of those tools and their search fields. For population data such as average daily counts, see the Arlington County inmate population page.
Arlington County Sheriff Contact Information
The Arlington County Sheriff's Office handles the jail, courthouse security, and civil process. Sheriff Jose Quiroz leads the office. The Sheriff's Office page lists contacts, the inmate phone provider, and the ADA coordinator.
It is the main hub for jail, custody, and Sheriff service questions.
